OFF AND RUNNING WITH THE FAEP

Anne L. Moretta, VMD, MS
2013 FAEP President

morettaAs each previous FAEP President has sat down to write their final letter there has been a common theme: How fast the previous year has gone by and how exciting the year has been.

It has been a pleasure throughout 2013 to have the opportunity to renew old friendships and make new friends within our veterinary network! Our FAEP educational events have created a great environment in which to share ideas. We offer smaller, more cohesive, colleague-to-colleague experiences with national and internationally recognized speakers.

Membership in the FAEP can help to empower each one of us to make change and create growth. Whether this is through legislation, quality education, or collaborative support, we can, as an equine veterinary group, make positive change to benefit our professional community.

The 51st Annual Ocala Equine Conference held on the weekend of November 15th, 2013 was a dynamic success. The educational meeting and wet labs provided a variety of in-depth topics and garnered great reviews. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Scott Palmer, Past President of AAEP, gave our attendees many different perspectives of the racing industry as he explored the issues, the climate, and the unique challenges involved in "Medication Issues in Racing."

I have sincerely appreciated the wonderful support of Dr. Suzan Oakley, our incoming FAEP President, our FAEP council, our Executive Director, Phil Hinkle and his staff, and the FVMA Executive Board. It has been an honor to be a part of this dynamic organization! I need to extend my special thanks to all of the FAEP council members whose commitment of time, energy, and ideas create successful and relevant programs for our participants.

None of our success would happen without the support network of our industry partners, exhibitors, membership, speakers, and attendees. They are the foundation for our excellent continuing education symposiums.

Resolve To Be Involved in 2014.
Join our FAEP Community.

How can you be involved? Whether you have days, hours or minutes, your participation will make a difference. Help us keep our meetings dynamic and relevant. Participation and feedback from our membership and attendees is a crucial part of what makes our programs successful.
Please write, call, or email our council with your suggestions. There are many talented veterinarians in our community. Please join us as committee members to help plan our educational meetings, and help with the scientific articles for our publication, The Practitioner.
The FAEP wishes you and yours a very Happy Holiday Season. We are looking forward to seeing you at our 2014 meetings.
