January 2011

Dear Fellow FAEP Members:

shellowI would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and best wishes for a healthy and productive new year. I am honored to serve as this year’s FAEP Council President. I would especially like to thank our 2010 President, Dr. Amanda House, for her hard work this past year, the entire FAEP FAEP Officers, and our Executive Director, Mr. Eric Nygaard. We will surely miss our outgoing Board members, Dr. Leann Kuebelbeck, Dr. Maria Cadario, and Dr. Wes Sutter, and we welcome our new Council member, Dr. Ruth-Anne Richter.

We are excited about our merger with the FVMA and I would like to thank the FVMA Executive Board, and the FAEP/FVMA Task Force that worked so hard to see this come to fruition. With this merger, Dr. Corey Miller will also join the FVMA Executive Board to insure the FVMA will be kept abreast of issues affecting the equine industry. The FAEP Council will continue the FAEP mission to provide the highest quality continuing education to our members and we could not continue to do this without the continued support of our educational partners. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of them and look forward to their continued commitment to the FAEP.

We are already hard at work on this year’s events. Please mark your calendars for the FAEP Foot Symposium July 22-23 at the Doubletree Resort on International Drive in Orlando. Our 7th Annual FAEP Promoting Excellence Symposium in the Southeast will be at the Omni Hotel and Resort in Amelia Island September 29-Oct 2. This year’s theme is Advanced Equine Sports Medicine: Diagnostics, Therapeutics and Rehabilitative Therapies and we have a great speaker line up including Doctors Mike Ross, Sue Dyson, Carol Gillis, John Madison, Mark Crisman and Steve Brinsko so far! The Ocala Equine Conference is being planned and will also offer some fantastic wet lab opportunities.

Our partnership with the FVMA will continue to help strengthen our voice for the equine veterinarian in Florida and the Southeast. The FAEP Council will also act in an advisory capacity on any regulatory or legislative issues affecting the equine industry in the State of Florida. As a member of the FVMA Legislative Committee, I am looking forward to attending this year’s Legislative Action Days in Tallahassee March 23-24.

Your current FAEP dues now include membership in the FVMA through December of 2011. I encourage you to become more involved in the FVMA and your FAEP Council, and to submit an article for The Practitioner. We look forward to seeing you at this year’s FAEP events.

All the best,

Jackie
